My dog gets tartar build-up quickly, and I'm not so great about brushing his teeth. He hates it and is extremely squirmy. I've had his teeth cleaned at the vet once so far (he's 4 years old), but I'd like to keep that to a minimum because of anesthesia. His teeth were starting to get bad again, and then I found the Flossie at a local pet store.
The Flossie is made of beef tendon, and the bands of fibers really help to scrape plaque off a dog's teeth and between them, too (hence the name).
The pet store owner where I got it has a 4 year old dog with bright white teeth which have never needed to be cleaned because of the Flossie, and she doesn't brush them.
I've really started to notice a difference after a few weeks of use. I cut the Flossie into 5 pieces, and he chews through each piece in about 3 days. Best of all, he loves it.
I pay about $7 each.

Myko with his Flossie. See him smiling?

Yes, that's dirt on my carpet.
My bf's cat had just knocked over her container
of cat grass (again).
1I should check these out. B-Bop Hates me brushing his teeth and they're starting to get bad (along with Bad breath) Maybe I'll get them cleaned and then stock up on these! Thanks for the heads up!
2That does look good! Have you tried Bright Bites (http://www.brightbites.com)? They seen to work really well on his teeth and gums but he loves a variety so I'll check these out as something to give him when I want to mix it up
3I've tried something similar and he wouldn't eat it. If I can get a free sample at a pet store, I'll give these a try. My dog is such a picky eater, even about treats! Thanks for sharing your ideas
4Bummer! Some dogs are just picky I guess. If I find anywhere you can get samples, I'll let you know. They have 3 flavors, so maybe he'll like one of them? My dog goes nuts for any treat so I guess I have it easy!
5Oh, your dog is so cute! What a beautiful smile. I'm going to look for these for Viva. I want to get her started on good oral hygeine.
6My local pet store recommended the "Jumbo/Phat Flossie" for my 7 mo old beagle/lab mix. She's an insatiable chewer and absolutely loved it. Although the store rep told me that it is completely digestible and ok if she devoured it, which she did in record time, she had some very loose stools afterward. I read all sorts of great reviews, so it might have been something else, or a combination of dietary things, but, if I get her another one, I'll put it aside for her once she has chewed a portion of it. (That is, if I can pry it away from her!)
7Hmm, I haven't noticed that in my dog. He has quite a sensitive stomach and these are fine for him. I also don't give him a whole stick in one day, just because he's little.
